Martín Satriano scored the only goal of the game as Getafe handed Real Madrid their second successive loss in LaLiga on Matchday 26 at the Estadio Bernabéu.

Despite enjoying over 77% possession, Álvaro Arbeloa’s side were unable to break down a stubborn away defence, who resolutely defended their lead after Satriano’s wonderful volley in the 39th minute.

Real had earlier gone close to breaking the deadlock, as David Soria saved efforts from both Vinícius Júnior and Arda Güler inside the opening 25 minutes.

Madrid, who progressed through to the round-of-16 of the Champions League in midweek with victory over Benfica, continuously sought a way back into the game during the second half. However, they could not beat Soria, who once again stood firm to deny Rodrygo and Franco Mastantuono.

Both teams were also reduced to 10 men in second half stoppage time, as Mastantuono was dismissed for dissent by referee Alejandro Ruiz, before Adrián Liso was shown a second yellow card for time-wasting two minutes later.

Having claimed top spot in LaLiga after their Matchday 24 success over Real Sociedad, Los Merengues have since suffered back-to-back league losses to Osasuna and Getafe. This means that they have once again slipped down to second in the standings, four points behind leaders Barcelona, who thumped Villarreal 4-1 on Saturday.

For Getafe, tonight’s triumph marks the first time in nine meetings that they have avoided defeat against Real, since a 1-0 win at home to Los Blancos in January 2022. José Bordalás’ squad climb into 11th position, and extend their gap to the relegation zone to eight points.

Los Azulones have six days to prepare for their next fixture, as they welcome Real Betis to the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez this Sunday. Madrid, meanwhile, return to action on Friday night as they travel to Vigo to take on Celta, hoping to end their losing run in LaLiga.
